IT hub in Visakhapatnam lacks Rythu Bazaars
New Vizag sees dramatic growth after bifurcation of the state
Visakhapatnam: Despite the rapid development of Visakhapatnam, many areas lying on the outskirts, which are famously known as New Vizag and the hub of IT sector, are lacking basic amenities such as Rythu Bazaars.
Though a small Rythu Bazaar is located in Madhurawada, many are giving it a miss due to its interior location and the place outside the market being overcrowded with street-side vendors.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, P. Venkateswara Rao of Yendada complained of lack of Rythu Bazaars in their vicinity. “Even though the surrounding areas have metamorphosed into a prime residential location and many IT companies are setting their shops in the locality, which is often referred to as “Madhapur” of Vizag, we still have to go miles to access basic amenities such as schools, hospitals and Rythu Bazaars. We have to visit MVP Rythu Bazaar to get a variety of vegetables given that the Madhurawada Rythu Bazaars is not serving to its full purpose,” he added.
There are about 12 Rythu Bazaars within the city limits. The Rythu Bazaars, which were established in 1999 during the Telugu Desam regime, had not seen a further increase in the number over the last few years.
With the hype around the state bifurcation since 2009, and growth projections of Vizag as it’s the only largest city in the state, the New Vizag has seen a dramatic growth. There are at least 4,000 apartment complexes in New Vizag, covering Sagar Nagar, Endada, Kapulauppda, Adhibhatlanagar, Madhurawada, PM Palem, Paradesipalem and Kom-madi, with at least 50% occupancy.
But nothing has changed in terms of civic amenities. “Establishing one or two Rythu Bazaars in the locality is the need of the hour as many apartment complexes have sprung up in the recent times,” added N. Nageswara Rao, a resident of Kommadi.
