Former Congress minister holds slippers for Rahul Gandhi during his visit to flood-hit Puducherry
Puducherry/Coimbatore: Congress Vice-President Rahuil Gandhi found himself in yet another controversy after images of former union minister V Narayanasamy holding his slippers went viral.
The Congress Vice-President was walking barefoot in waterlogged Puducherry on his visit to flood-hit areas. Narayanasamy justified the move saying that he offered his own slippers to Rahul. "It is the duty of a Congres worker to take care of our guest. I bent down and gave my chappal to Rahul Gandhi after he had taken off his shoes and was walking barefoot. I do not see anything wrong in it. I offered my chappal," said Narayansamy.
Besides Puducherry, Rahul aslo visited parts of Tamil Nadu. Former Tamil Nadu unit Seva Dal president and former MLA, Kovai Selvaraj on Wednesday accused TNCC president EVKS Elangovan with taking Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi only to some select flood affected areas, as a result of which he was unable to assess the real damage.
Selvaraj alleged that Elangovan had not consulted senior party leaders or MLAs and had on his own selected the areas for Rahul's visit.
There would have been more positive impact if the right pockets were selected for the visits, he said.
There was no necessity to distribute relief measures by political parties, as each would take political mileage out of it, he said adding that announcements by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa would definitely reach the affected without fail.
