Significant increase in Telangana revenue
Hyderabad: Revenue collections in key sectors in Telangana state witnessed a significant growth in current fiscal (2015-16) till November-end. Finance minister Etela Rajender, who reviewed tax collections with officials of various departments on Monday expressed satisfaction over the targets achieved so far and asked officials to step up efforts to achieve 100 per cent collections in the remaining four months of current fiscal. Officials informed him that the government had earned Rs 21,000 crore through tax collections
While VAT/ sales tax collections witnessed 18 per cent growth over same period last year, excise department has earned revenue of '3,320 crore, which too is 18 per cent higher over last year. Stamps and registration department has recorded 30 per cent growth over last year. Transport department has earned Rs 1,460 crore, which is 20 per cent higher over last year.
Mr Rajender asked officials to plug the loopholes and achieve 100 per cent tax collection in the balance four months. He said there is more evasion of taxes with regard to sales tax and professional tax and officials must initiate measures to check this menace. Mr Rajender asked officials to stop illegal transport of goods from other states to evade taxes at the check posts.
