Rebellious Mandya leaders give DKS meeting a miss

Differences came out in the open in the Mandya district Congress unit.

Bengaluru: Differences came out in the open in the Mandya district Congress unit over the selection of former MP, L.R. Shivarame Gowda for the local bodies constituency, with most Mandya leaders remaining absent from a meeting convened by energy minister, D. K. Shivakumar on Monday.
Owing to irreconcilable differences among various leaders, Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah and Congress state president, Dr Parameshwar had appointed Mr Shivakumar as peacemaker to select a unanimous candidate.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, a senior leader from Mandya said, “It all began after Mr Shivarame Gowda’s ticket was confirmed in Delhi. Without wasting any time, Mandya district leader, A. S. Ravindra Srikanthaiah shot off a letter to Dr Parameshwar alleging that Mr Shivarame Gowda had conspired against former Mandya MP, Ramya, when she had contested in the 2014 general election.”
In this background, Mr Shivakumar was advised by both leaders to convene a meeting of Mandya leaders to hammer out differences, however, most of the leaders chose not to respond to Mr Shivakumar’s call. Meanwhile, Mr Shivakumar asserted that Mr Srikanthaiah should not have gone to the media condemning the party decision.
