Online trading system gets cold response from traders
Guntur: Trading at famous mirchi yard in Guntur was stalled following a strike by middlemen and traders on Monday. The stir is will continue on Tuesday. Middlemen, traders and some of farmers objected to the new system of online trading of chilli at the market yard, saying it was not useful and causing loses to their business.
Guntur Chilli Commission Agents Association president Sambireddy, along with the members served notice to the market yard management on their grievance on Sunday evening.
The association, along with some farmers, staged a protest and boycotted trading. Market expert and one of the traders at the yard revealed on condition of anonymity that basically the system of e-trade was very good, but the government failed to educate the farmers and merchants about the system before launching it.
He added that the government did not disclose the benefits of the e-trading to the stakeholders so far in a proper way. The trader said that there were political gains for the ruling party leaders who have backed the strike. He said that the ruling party MLA backed the strike to corner minister for agriculture P. Pulla Rao and increase control over the market yard.
