Ongole: Minister for social welfare and district in-charge minister Ravela Kishore Babu, minister for transport Siddha Raghava Rao disbursed financial assistance of Rs 49,84,74,000 to 34,085 SC/ST beneficiaries to create self-employment in “Chandranna Runa Mela” held here on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Kishore Babu explained steps taken by the government for the welfare of SCs/STs.
He said that the government opened a website to furnish details regarding the SC/ST sub-plan and added that despite resource crunch, the government was implementing several welfare schemes for SCs/STs.
He said that the government has taken steps to admit the students appe-aring for IAS, IPS examination in coaching centres in Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad besides extending financial assi-stance to those go abroad for higher studies. He urged the SC/ST studen-ts avail facilities provided by the government.
Mr Siddha Raghava Rao explained the steps taken by the government for the welfare of SCs and STs.
District collector Sujatha Sharma said that the district administration is spending Rs 250 crore under the sub-plan for the welfare of SCs/STs during the current financial year and added that the government was sanctioning scholarships through online system.
MLAs Damacherla Jan-ardhan, A. Suresh, MLC Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, Telugu Rythu state president Karanam Balaramakrishna Murthy and officials were present.
