Jharkhand train accident toll rises to 14

Howrah Bhopal Express hit a car at an unmanned level crossing in Ramgarh district.

Ramgarh, Jharkhand: With the recovery of a child's body from under the debris of a SUV in the early hours on Tuesday, the toll in the mishap involving the Howrah Bhopal Express after it hit a car at an unmanned level crossing in Ramgarh district, rose to 14.

The dead included seven children, four women and three men, Superintendent of Police M Tamilvanan said. The children were aged between two and four years.

They were residents of nearby Kodi village and were returning home after a 'mundan' ritual held at Rajarappa temple in the district last night, the SP said.

The mishap occurred near Bhurkunda railway station of the East Central Railway (ECR), killing all the occupants of the SUV at the unmanned level crossing, he said.

Chief Minister Raghubar Das has announced Rs 1 lakh to the kin of the deceased, an official release said.
