Court says no to beef, pork festivals till December 21

‘These festivals are being conducted in a provocative manner.’

Hyderabad: The city civil court on Monday issued a status quo on the beef and pork festivals scheduled for December 10 on the OU campus and issued orders that such events should not be held till December 21.

The court was hearing a petition filed by advocate Janardhan Goud. Mr Goud filed an injunction suit alleging that the beef and pork festivals planned by students could result in law and order issues and affect peace in the city.

“These festivals are being conducted in a provocative manner and are hurting the sentiments of both Hindus and Muslims. Earlier also, during similar festivals, many people were injured and attempt to murder (IPC Section 307) cases were registered,” Mr Goud told the court.

The petition alleged that Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the law banning cow slaughter would be violated during the festival.
