Coming to IT City: An aerospace school
Private companies will be roped in to set up centre of excellence.
Bengaluru: Law and Parliamentary Affairs minister T.B. Jayachandra, who also holds the Higher Education portfolio said the government is planning to establish a centre of excellence in aerospace engineering in Bengaluru. Speaking to reporters here on Monday, Mr Jayachandra said, “Our universities have not been providing manpower to industries, to provide man power to the sector, I have chalked out a plan which includes setting up of an aerospace training institute in Bengaluru”.
The minister said that he had already held three rounds of meetings with private companies. After finalizing the project, the government will enter into a memorandum of understanding with private companies for setting up the institute, he said. Bengaluru is the aviation hub of the country. The city has Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), National Aerospace Laboratory and many MNC companies operate from the city. Therefore Bengaluru is an ideal location for the Centre, Mr Jayachandra explained.
The main aim of the institution is to provide jobs to young professionals. At present aerospace engineering is offered by engineering colleges in the state. But there is no centre for excellence, he said. The newly appointed Higher Education minister has plans to change the curriculum in Higher Education which would enable industries to hire trained professionals.
Mr. Jayachandra also said he had held talks with the Jindals to establish an Economics Study Centre at Bangalore University. The setting up of the Study Centre has become controversial after a section of Syndicate members opposed the proposal.
