Building Penalisation Scheme to fetch Rs 300 crore revenue for Andhra Pradesh coffers

10,771 applications received from Vizag civic body

Hyderabad: The Building Penalisation Scheme has become a “golden goose” for the cash starved AP government. Through the BPS the state government is going to earn about Rs 300 crore.
Keeping in view the huge response to BPS from the public, the state government has extended the scheme up to December 31. Till Decem-ber 4, the state government received more than 61,000 applications from all urban local bodies.
Along with the application, applicants have to pay Rs 10,000 as an initial fee. Through this the state government earned about Rs 62 crore.
As a part of mobilisation of additional resources the AP government has decided to regularise unauthorised buildings and the buildings constructed in deviation of the sanctioned plan by collecting the penalisation fee.
This will be applicable to the existing buildings constructed after January 1, 1985 and before December 31, 2014 in the jurisdiction of all nagara panchayats, municipalities, municipal corporations, in the case of gram panchayats falling in urban development authorities and in the case of gram panchayats falling in the capital region except those included in the capital city area of the Capital Region Development Authority.
Under the BPS progra-mme, the highest applications were received from Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (10,771) and lowest applications were received from Atmakur Municipality (4) in Kurnool district.
In the CRDA limits, the government received 5,712 applications. The applicant has to pay an initial amount of '10,000 along with the application and pay the balance penal charges on intimation by the competent authority within 30 days.
The penal charges will be decided for total violated built up area an all floors. The officials said after completing the collection of final penal charges government may get about Rs 300 crore including initial payments.
