Adulterated liquor leaves 5 dead in Krishnalanka

Ex-MLA Vishnu’s kin hold licence of ‘killer bar’

Vijayawada: Five persons died and seven others were battling for life after consuming adulterated liquor at a bar in Krishnalanka of Vijayawada on Monday. Of the 34 residents of Nehrunagar and Ranadevnagar of Krishnalanka, 29 were undergoing treatment in private hospitals in the city, said sources. All the victims were daily wage workers.
District collector Ahmed Babu said that the condition of three of the seven who were on ventilator support was serious.
All the victims had consumed cheap liquor at Swarna Bar and Restaurant in Krishnalanka at around 10 am on Monday.
Three victims collapsed on the spot and died while two died while being rushed to the Government General Hospital.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has ordered a thorough inquiry into the issue and has asked officials to ensure proper health care for the victims.
Task force police who took up investigations are likely question former MLA and Congress city president Malladi Vishnu. Mr Vishnu's mother and relatives are among the licence holders of the bar.
