Woman, 3-year-old son found dead in bathroom

Police suspect a leak from gas geyser to be the cause of deaths.
Bengaluru: A 23-year-old woman and her three-year-old son were found dead under mysterious circumstances in the bathroom of their house in Lakshmipura under Kempegowda Nagar police limits on Sunday afternoon. The deceased have been identified as Arpita, a housewife, and her son Amrut. Arpita’s in-laws were present in the house at the time of accident, but were alarmed only when it was too late.
There were no injury or any other marks on the bodies. The police suspect that a leak from a gas geyser in the bathroom could have killed the two. The bodies were sent to the Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Hospital for the postmortem to ascertain the exact cause of deaths. Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) experts too visited the house and examined the gas geyser, the police said.
“If the gas geyser is not maintained properly with prompt timely servicing, there are chances that it could leak. The bathroom was closed from all sides without any ventilation,” said an investigating officer. When the mother and child did not come out for a long time, the in-laws got into the bathroom around 1 pm. They found the child lying motionless near the commode when they broke open the door of the bathroom, they found Arpita too lying motionless. They rushed both to a hospital where they were declared brought dead, the police said. Arpita’s husband Nagarjuna, who is a priest, had gone to a temple in Adugodi for performing some rituals early Sunday morning, the police said.
Amrut’s third birthday was celebrated only on November 24. A case of unnatural death has been taken up by K.G. Nagar police.
