Pothole filling work on in full swing: G Kumar Naik
The works will be taken up after reviewing the roads where work orders have been issued recently
BENGALURU: Pothole filling drive has gained steam after rains have given a respite over the last four days. BBMP Commissioner G. Kumar Naik told Deccan Chronicle that the city roads have been classified into three categories – Defect Liability Period (DLP), roads to be taken up by new contractors and roads that do not fall into these two categories.
Already, pothole filling and patch works have begun vigorously. Contractors have been told to mobilise men and material for pothole filling.
The works will be taken up after reviewing the roads where work orders have been issued recently. The BBMP has released Rs 5-6 crore for roads that have an expired DLP and that are not under the new contract, he said.
“From Monday, pothole filling work will be taken up vigorously across the eight zones. Arterial and sub-arterial roads will be filled during the night to avoid inconvenience to motorists, while ward roads and intermediate roads will be covered during the day. Roads in Mahadevapur and West zone were repaired on Saturday and Sunday night,” he said.
The BBMP has floated tenders for the construction of hot mix plants at four different locations. Once these plants are commissioned, procuring hot mix for pothole filling will be easy and the patch works can be taken up soon, Mr Naik said.
