Parade marks Raising Day of Home Guards in Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam: The 53rd Raising Day of Home Guards was celebrated with fanfare and gaiety at Police Grounds here on Sunday. The Home Guards conducted an impressive parade and the city police chief Amit Garg inspected it.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Amit Garg lauded the Home Guards for performing multifarious duties and acting as auxiliary force in the key wings of police department such as traffic, law and order and also crime and also helping the community during emergencies.
At present, there are 1,192 Home Guards, including women force, in the city assisting the city police and 44 per cent of them are post graduates.
The police chief also said that the government was taking steps for the welfare of the Home Guards. The Home Guards took out a rally from Police Ground to Jagadamba Junction and about 50 Guards donated blood on the occasion.
