Telugu film producers’ meet turns ugly

The Telugu Film Producers’ Council meet held at the Film Chamber of Commerce building on Sunday turned ugly with heated arguments over alleged misuse of funds. According to sources, a few producers even manhandled the official members of the Council.

The scam had come to light after an audit of the accounts. Many producers are now accusing the present members for not looking into the issue. Burugupalli Sivaramakrishna is the president of the Telugu Producers’ Council and Kodali Venkateswara Rao is the secretary.

“It was very shameful what happened on Sunday. There was a fraud found during an audit. The people who did this fraud accepted their mistake. Now, the Council is trying to recover the money from them,” says Suresh Babu.

“But leaving this main issue aside, some producers took their personal matter into this meeting and it turned ugly,” he adds.

R.K. Goud, president of Telangana Film Chamber of Commerce, accused secretary K.V. Rao about the scam. “We don’t want to leave anyone who is involved in this scam. I appeal to members to come out with the facts and show them in the meeting,” said Goud.

He added, “I’ve come to know that some people diverted Council funds to their own accounts showing expenditures done for the council. How come they fixed air-conditioners without any hall or any room?”

On Sunday, Chadalavada Sriniasara Rao led from the front with a few small producers and manhandled top producers. “Whichever producer wants to give television advertisements, they have to go through the Council. They have to pay the Council for that. So from the last few months, the person, who’s handling the accounts, has been misusing this money,” says the source. The source added that a committee will speak to the media about the fraud soon.
