India Inc is easy prey for hackers

Only 15 per cent of the organisations feel more threatened today by cyber attacks
Mumbai: Budget constraints and lack of people skilled in cyber security makes a number of India Inc companies targets of criminal syndicates and hacktivists.
Forty seven per cent of the chief information officers (CIOs) of the over 200 organisations interviewed for the EY’s Global Information Security Survey 2015 titled Creating trust in the digital world said they lacked skilled resources while 48 per cent cited budget constraints as the main obstacle that challenges Information Security operations in contributing value to the organisation. The fundamental problems is the gap between the academic world and the real world,” said Burgess Cooper, partner, and Devendra Parulekar, partner, E&Y Information and Cyber Security.
There are universities that have courses but the course material has not kept pace with technological development which is constantly evolving. Companies, therefore, have to be constantly upgrading the skills of their cyber security force in the real world, they said, speaking to this newspaper.
Other highlights of the survey revealed that 57 per cent say they should spend more money on cybersecurity to protect data; data leakage/data loss prevention are top priority for 69 per cent CIO’s, and 65 per cent believe their information security structure partially meets their organisation’s needs.
