Vijayawada: Union minister Nitin Gadkari said the government would develop five new National Highways in the state costing Rs 6,211 crore. A Rs 45-crore flyover had been approved at Morapudi centre.
Mr Gadkari said that his ministry was ready to allot funds for the waterways project, especially the Buckingham Canal which could be utilised for water transportation.
India has a low percentage of water transport at 3.5 per cent compared to 40 per cent in China and Korea. Water transport is inexpensive and is pollution and traffic free, he explained.
He said with the Telugu Desam being a partner in the NDA government, the Centre would extend all support for the development of the state.This was the BJP’s responsibility, Mr Gadkari said.
All these announcements would be implemented without fail, he promised. Mr Gadkari also announced several road projects of which some are new and the rest were under various stages with the National Highways Authority of India.
