Two months for Telangana government to act
Hyderabad: Justice CV Nagarjuna Reddy of the Hyderabad High Court has granted two months time to the TS government to act on the suggestions made by the GHMC to nip the menace of illegal constructions in the bud.
The judge had on November 7, 2015 directed the GHMC commissioner to file an affidavit explaining the measures he proposed to undertake to nip in the bud the illegal constructions without forcing the aggrieved parties to resort to avoidable litigation.
Following this, GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy filed an affidavit stating that the corporation has requested the government to amend the Municipal Corporation Act by making the illegal construction activity a cognizable offence and also to constitute a tribunal for speedy disposal of the cases related to illegal constructions.
He informed the court that zonal commissioners were instructed to book criminal cases against persons indulging in illegal construction and a special task force set up with two retired DCPs and staff to check complaints on illegal construction and take appropriate action.
The court was told that two supervisors of the town planning section were placed under suspension in the past six months for alleged dereliction of duty in taking action on illegal constructions. The government was also requested to fill 200 vacancies in the GHMC to overcome the staff crunch.
While hearing a petition by a resident of the city alleging that his neighbour was constructing a building in violation of the sanctioned plan, the judge felt the need for the government to act on the suggestions of the GHMC. The judge adjourned the case to February 8.
