TRS gets shock in panchayat bypolls
Hyderabad: The ruling TRS has suffered defeat at the hands of the Opposition candidates in the bypolls held for gram panchayats in Nalgonda and Mahbubnagar districts on Saturday.
In the Jedcherla major panchayat, the constituency headquarters of medical and health minister C. Laxma Reddy, TRS candidate Jangaiah suffered defeat at the hands of Congress candidate Bukka Venkatesh in the sarpanch election. In Nalgonda district, of the nine sarpanches, the ruling TRS won five and remaining were bagged by the Opposition.
In Nakrekal, a major gram panchayat, Pannala Rangamma, Praja Front candidate, supported by the all the major Opposition parties, defeated TRS candidate Sama Mangamma by a margin of 440 votes.
TRS had treated the election as a prestige issue, with party MLA Vemula Veeresam and minister G. Jagadeeshwar Reddy campaigning for the party candidate. However, the TRS won 14 out of 20 wards and the remaining six were bagged by Praja Front candidates.
