Rs 39.82 crore input subsidy sought

The farmers whose crop was damaged more than 33 per cent are eligible for input subsidy
Ongole: The Prakasam district has suffered a loss of Rs 169.55 crore crop damage caused by deficit rainfall and severe drought. Various crops were damaged in over 31,002 hectare in the district.
Over 37,593 farmers suffered losses caused by crop damages in the district. The district administration has to pay input subsidy of Rs 39.82 crore to farmers who suffered losses due to deficit rainfall. Due to deficit rainfall, Bengal gram, jowar, black gram, red gram, green gram and cotton crops were damaged.
Similarly, sweet lemon gardens were also damaged due to depletion of ground water in Markapuram and surrounding mandals. As a result, the farmers incurred heavy losses.

The district administration has to pay input subsidy of Rs 39.82 crore to the farmers who suffered losses due to deficit rainfall. The officials have already completed enumeration and sending a report to the government for the release of funds.
The state government declared Prakasam district as drought-hit due to both rain and drought damaged crops. The joint director of agriculture, Dr J. Murali, said “We have completed assessm-ent of crop damages caused by drought and are sending the report to the government.”
