1984 riots-accused Jagdish Tytler attacked in New Delhi

A Sikh youth had attacked Tytler with a glass.

New Delhi: 1984 riots-accused and Congress leader Jagdish Tytler was attacked by a Sikh youth, while he was attending a wedding in Delhi on Saturday, according to reports.

The youth allegedly got into a heated argument with Tytler, he blamed the Congress leader for the anti-Sikh riots and attacked with his a glass. Tytler managed to escape unhurt.

The attacker has been identified as 23-year-old Umang Bhatia and was detained by the police for verbally abusing and attacking the Congress leader.

On Friday, a Delhi court had ordered further investigation into the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case against Tytler.

The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Saurabh Pratap Singh Laler had ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct further investigations and refused to accept the closure report that gives Tytler a clean chit.

There has been anger among many Sikhs against CBI’s decision to give the Congress leader a clean chit in the riots case.
