National sailing gold for Rishab Nayar
The 14-year-old was the star performer in both the events
Hyderabad: Young sailor Rishab Nayar of Hyderabad clinched gold and silver medals at the recently concluded Youth Nationals and India International Regatta events respectively held in Chennai.
The 14-year-old was the star performer in both the events. His gold medal in the Youth Nationals came after a gap of 18 years to the city. In the India International Regatta event, Rishab won four out of 12 races. He missed the gold in the event by just one point and ended up finishing second behind Mohammad Abdul Kareem of UAE. Among other performers from Telangana, Tanishq Desai finished fourth in the boys sub-juniors optimist class while Shreya Seshadri and Juhi Desai also finished fourth in the girls category in the same competition.
Speaking about Rishab, his coach Suheim Shiekh said, “The normally mild and gentle Rishab suddenly turned into an aggressive winner at these nationals. It is a coach’s delight to see the killer instinct of an athlete surface as that is more than 90 percent of the job done.”
