Yettinahole: Meet of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi MLAs soon

Yettinalhole project is being opposed by people and environmentalists of these two districts
Bengaluru: In an effort to ensure smooth implementation of Yettinahole drinking water project, Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah on Friday assured floor leaders in the state legislature that he would soon convene a meeting of legislators of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts to “convince” them about the need for the project.
Speaking to reporters after the floor leaders’ meeting, water resources minister M.B. Patil said, “Floor leaders have demanded that legislators of both districts need to brought on the same page as the state government to ensure smooth implementation of the project, which was accepted by the CM.”
According to him, Yettinalhole project is being opposed by people and environmentalists of these two districts, ever since it was envisaged.
“Therefore the government will make an attempt to bring them to our side to supply drinking water to parched districts such as Tumkuru, Kolar and Chikkaballapura.”
The minister added that the state government would also file an appeal before the south zone bench of National Green Tribunal at Chennai to get rid of the hurdles to the project.
“We will soon interact with the state environment department before filing our appeal. The complainants had argued that there was no clearance for 13.9 hectare of forestland which is crucial for implementation of this project. We will find a middle path to complete Yettinahole,” he said.
