Telangana to give LED bulbs to poor
Hyderabad: After deciding to waive pending power and water bills of poorer sections in the city, the Telangana government has decided to distribute LED bulbs in Greater Hyderabad.
TS energy minister, G. Jagadish Reddy wants to give LED bulbs to citizens in Greater Hyderabad as a New Year gift. If the minister has his way, the distribution of LED bulbs will commence as a pilot project in Greater Hyderabad before the GHMC poll code comes into effect.
The minister held a review meeting with top officials of the energy department, GHMC and Transco and discussed the cost of each LED bulb. These LED bulbs save up to 50 per cent energy and will benefit both the consumers by reducing their electricity consumption per month and also reducing the overall energy consumption in the state, officials told the minister. LED bulbs of 9 watts cost Rs 400 to Rs 500 depending upon the company.
