Bengaluru: Twins died after polio vaccination, claim parents
Bengaluru: A case of unnatural death has been filed against the BBMP Health Centre in Bapujinagar, Byatrayanapura after two infants died after immunisation on Thursday.
The parents of four-month-old twins have lodged a complaint with the police, alleging that the two girls died after a polio vaccination. Lunesh and Hemalata, a couple from Bapujinagar, took the twins to the hospital on Thursday. But they developed complications and died at 11.30 am on Friday, BBMP officials said.
BBMP officials said that preliminary investigations revealed that there is no fault with the vaccines, and that the bodies have been sent to Victoria Hospital for the postmortem.
“The children were given the second dose of pentavalent polio vaccine which is usually administered when the child is 2.5 months old. They died 22 hours after being administered the vaccination,” said Dr Sudarshan, an official with the BBMP health department. A delay in administering the vaccination will not cause lead to death, he confirmed.
