3 Central teams to assess Telangana drought

Partial drought prevailed in the districts of Karimnagar, Nalgonda and Warangal
Hyderabad: Three Central teams will visit TS to assess the drought situation in the state on December 6. The teams will tour drought-hit districts till December 8 and examine the damage caused to crops by taking up filed-level visits in select areas.
The TS government has submitted a report to the Centre, seeking Rs 2,500 crore drought assistance and Rs 1,000 crore in immediate financial assistance to take up relief measures.
The government had in the last week of November, declared 231 mandals, one-third of the total mandals in the state, as drought-hit.
The state government brought to the notice of Centre that rainfall was normal only in Khammam and Adilabad districts, while Mahbubnagar, Medak, Nizamabad and Ranga Reddy districts were totally drought affected. Partial drought prevailed in the districts of Karimnagar, Nalgonda and Warangal.
The Central teams will meet Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma at the Secretariat on December 7 before leaving for the field visit.
The teams will meet Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on December 9 and apprise him about their observations.
