Peshwa descendants think Ranveer is not fit to play Bajirao

The descendants even have objection with 'Pinga' and 'Malhari' songs from the film

Mumbai: The descendants of Bajirao Peshwa and Mastani Baisaheb held a joint press conference in Mumbai on Friday, where they expressed their objections on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming film ‘Bajirao Mastani’.

At the press conference, they put forth their disappointments on the way the film’s characters have been portrayed in the film. Especially, Ranveer Singh, who they think doesn’t resemble Bajirao. They feel that the actor doesn’t fit the bill to play a commander who fought for the freedom of the Marathas.

They further expressed objection on song ‘Malhari’, saying that the song is embarrassing and will bring a bad name to the community as it has Bajirao dancing to poorly worded lyrics.

The descendants of Shrimant Bajirao Peshwa, Udaysinh Peshwa along with others, want the songs ‘Pinga’ and ‘Malhari’ to be removed from the film completely since the dance and clothes hurt their sentiments.

On December 3, four people, who claim to be heirs of the Maratha warrior Peshwa Bajirao I and his wife Mastani, filed a plea in the Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, seeking a stay on the release of the film ‘Bajirao Mastani’.

The petitioners alleged that the film portrayed their ancestors 'in poor light' which 'hurt their reputation.'

Prasadrao Peshwa, a descendant of Bajirao Peshwa I has alleged that historical facts have been "altered" in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's ‘Bajirao Mastani’, which stars Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra.

The descendants also said that they are against the film as a whole. The way the trailer depicts that Bajirao loved his one wife more than the other, the clothes the characters have worn is a wrong portrayal and even the film’s star cast in not up to the mark.

The objections have been forwarded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Minister of Culture Mahesh Sharma, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis and CBFC Chairperson, Pahlaj Nihalani, demanding the government to reviews the film, study the alteration of historical facts in the depiction of the Peshwa and his wives and takes a decision on ‘Bajirao Mastani’s release.
