Adani group eyeing three million TEU India bound cargo

Competition for international cargo would be between Colombo and Vizhinjam
Thiruvananthapuram: The Adani group have made it clear that they were eyeing the three million TEU India bound cargo handled by Colombo at present. The competition for international cargo would be between Colombo and Vizhinjam, Karan Adani, Adani ports executive director said. “The port could get the advantage only if it was able to provide competitive pricing. Nobody would bring cargo to Vizhinjam only due to the love of the place. The port could get a profit only if it was cost effective,” Mr Adani said.
“The focus of the Vizhinjam Transshipment container terminal would be on shipping line traffic. Having a string of ports all along the Indian coast is our advantages over individual operators. Only three coastal states Maharashtra, Karnataka and AP have been left out. Immediate plan was to enter these states also,” Mr Adani said.
