University-college tussle affects 100 B.Ed students’ prospects

The students are worried because they will miss on government teacher jobs.

Hyderabad: The future of about 100 students hangs by a thread in the tussle between the management of a private college in Nalgonda and Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda.

The students who were admitted into the 2013-14 batch at Narketpally College of Education, Nalgonda, are waiting to sit for their annual examination for B.Ed, which they could not give last year and missed out this year too due to the irresponsibility of the college management and MGU.

A student said, “We got admitted in the 2013 batch not knowing that the college does not have permission to have more than 100 students. They admitted 200 students after which the university suddenly woke up and ordered that only 100 will be allowed to sit for the exams from the college.

We went to High Court which ordered that we should be allowed to give the exams. However, the university did not allow us to give the exams this year again.”

The students are worried because they will miss on government teacher jobs for which Telangana state government is expected to conduct DSC exam soon for which B.Ed is compulsory.

An official of the college said, “We submitted examination application forms soon after we got the judgement from High Court this year but by then one exam was already conducted.

The students could not give other exams. The High Court ordered that exams can be conducted if students pay fees, which they did. It is the university's fault that they did not conduct separate exams for these 100 students yet.”
