Trash: George offers no solution at city MLAs’ meet

The meeting was intended to come up with an answer to the garbage crisis

Bengaluru: Minister for Bengaluru city development K.J. George held a meeting of legislators of all parties to seek their co-operation to address two important issues-garbage and potholed roads- which have made the life of Bengalureans miserable.

The meeting was convened as per directions from Legislative Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa after the opposition BJP and Janata Dal (Secular) ripped apart the government at the recently held joint session of the Legislature on the issue of garbage and bad roads in the state capital.

The meeting was intended to come up with an answer to the garbage crisis but failed to do so as Mr George reportedly could not come up with tangible solutions. He regurgitated the data which was presented on the floor of the House last week to convey his commitment to resolve the garbage crisis.

A senior BJP leader and former minister told Deccan Chronicle that the legislators had an open discussion on problems confronting the city.

Mr George repeated whatever he had said in the legislature on the setting up of new plants, waste to energy plants, segregation of waste and the scouting for abandoned quarries to dump garbage collected from the city. He also highlighted the signing of memorandums of understanding with a few international agencies to generate energy out of waste.
