CFTRI sends emergency food packets to Chennai

The production of disaster management foods will continue at CFTRI
Mysuru: Considering the gravity of the flood situation in Chennai and nearby districts in Tamil Nadu, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research affiliated Central Food Technology Research Institute (CFTRI) in Mysuru delivered its first set of emergency food packets and drinking water to flood-hit areas in Tamil Nadu Thursday evening.
They have dispatched 6,000 chappatis with tomato chutney and pickle, 10,000 portions of Imli poha, 11,000 buns and biscuits, 5,000 packs of cornflakes and 25,000 bottles of drinking water.
The products will be sent by road to the CSIR run Central Leather Research Institute in Chennai which is the nodal hub for distribution for food from CSIR-CFTRI to various districts in Tamil Nadu.
The production of disaster management foods will continue at CFTRI for the next few days till the situation in Chennai comes under control. The institute had earlier delivered food catering to emergency requirements during the floods in Uttarakhand, the tsunami disaster and the Kargil war.
