Film releases to be under surveillance

The decision by the Producers’ Council will help movies with small budgets

With small films always getting affected due to the continual postponements of big films, the Producers’ Council has decided to control releases henceforth.

“Big films like Baahubali, Srimanthudu, Rudhramadevi and Akhil were postponed several times. Because of these postponements the exhibitors and small films are affected the most. So to keep things in order, the Producers’ Council has decided that once a release date for a film is announced, the makers will have to stick to it,” says a source from the council.

If the producers can’t meet the release date the film should be postponed for at least four weeks. “It will allow small films to release during that time,” adds the source. This rule will come into force from January 1.

Interestingly, releases in the Hindi, Kannada and Tamil film industries are always on time, it is only in the Telugu film industry that there’s no control over release dates.

“Recently, everyone agreed to it during a meeting,” says the source. “Now, the Telugu producers want to put the releases in a streamline,” added the source.
