When will Ranbir be ‘back’?
Tamasha didn’t open to rave reviews on Day One but picked up gradually to an audience looking for “more than a love story”
“It’s the kind of film that will grow on people,” Imtiaz had said to us in an interview regarding his latest box office offering Tamasha. Quite expectedly for the filmmaker, the film didn’t open to rave reviews on Day One but picked up gradually to an audience looking for “more than a love story”. But Tamasha certainly did not set the till box ringing. What did garner some rather positive reactions though, is Ranbir’s acting and earnest portrayal of a grown man stuck in an existential crisis. Many, regardless of their view of the film, have lauded the performance.
While that is great news given the debacles that his past films have been, the Kapoor scion had stepped into Bollywood with much more promise, when he made a splash with Saawariya and lapped it up with Wake up Sid, Barfi etc. One would argue that the latent star in Ranbir hasn’t reached his full potential yet. Will Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil set that right? Will Karan break Ranbir’s jinx? We’ll have to wait and watch.
