Vizhinjam gets ready for start
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State government has already acquired 90 per cent of the land required for the project for the Vizhinjam International Transshipment terminal that will be inaugurated on December 5.
Government sources said A total of 203 acres had been acquired for the project while 23 acre still remained to be acquired.
The work related to dredging for the port has already begun, while the construction of the breakwater will begin soon after the inauguration based on the provisions of the concession agreement with Adani Vizhinjam Port Private Ltd.
The work related to road and rail connectivity is being progressing while the government has completed electrical and water supply lines. Government has announced a package of
Rs. 475 crore for people directly or indirectly affected by the port constructed with a depth of 20 metres for accomadating big vessels with capacities ranging from 1300-1800 TEU (Twenty Foot Equivalent Unit).
The State Government and the Adani group has reached an agreement for completing the seaport project operational within a record time of less than 1,000 days . Of the estimated cost of the project of about Rs 7,525 crore, Centre will provide a viability gap funding of about 800 crores.
