KTU leaves it to government
KOCHI: The fledgling A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technological University that has landed students in a mess by postponing the B.Tech and M.Tech first semester exams has taken the position to wait and watch for the controversy over the involvement of private agency in the conduct of the exams to get resolved, before conducting the exams.
“Let the State Government take some decision on the issue. Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb will convene a meeting of all concerned including those who have raised objection to involving the private agency, soon to discuss and sort out the issue. Then only the examinations will be rescheduled,” said Dr Kuncheria P. Isaac, Vice-Chancellor, KTU.
He said, as of now the exam calendar originally scheduled by the university stands paralysed. “I am not responsible for the plight of students. We had meticulously planned the calendar,” he said.
At a meeting on Tuesday, the Chief Minister Oommen Chandy himself had asked the Education Minister and the VC to convene a meeting of stakeholders to sort out the issue involving the Bangalore-based private agency MeritTrac. The BTech and MTech first semester exams were originally scheduled to begin on Friday.
SFI state secretary D T Vijin told DC on Wednesday that the organization decided to abandon the Secretariat march in the day in view of the decision to put off the exam. “We will return to the agitational path if the partnership with the private firm for conducting exams is not abandoned by KTU. We are looking forward to the talks to be convened by the Minister,” he said.
