Kerala Court appellants delay rehab fund

K. Babu said the total population of Vizhinjam Village was 20,714 but the number of people who had applied for compensation is 18,800

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ports minister K. Babu said that the rehabilitation package for the project-affected in Vizhinjam was getting delayed because of the huge number of applicants seeking compensation. He said the total population of Vizhinjam Village was 20,714 but the number of people who had applied for compensation is 18,800.

“This would mean that more than 90 per cent of people living in the area are affected by the project,” the minister said while replying to an adjournment motion moved by Jameela Prakasam in the Assembly on Wednesday. “A committee headed by the district collector has to sort these applications to find the truly deserving. This will take a bit more time than we expected.”
