Help is at hand: Social media relief work races on
Tamil Nadu is facing the heaviest rainfall in more than 100 years and the effects have been devastating. With the death toll rising up to 269 people, there are many who are left stranded, hungry, hurt and in urgent need of help.
While the Army and Navy have been deployed towards rescue and relief operations in the badly affected areas, many are reaching out to their fellow residents via social media. People are tweeting using the hashtag #ChennaiRainsHelp and #ChennaiFloods to extend help to those in need.

A website called Flooded Streets is a crowd-sourced effort to map inundated roads in Chennai. People are using the website to report flooded streets by zooming into the map and clicking on the particular street they wish to report.
