Bengaluru: Cheating accused alleges constable extorted him

The accused has alleged that a police constable attached to Anekal police station extorted him

BENGALURU: An accused in a cheating case has alleged that a police constable attached to Anekal police station had taken gold jewels and cash, totally worth Rs 8.5 lakh, from him on the pretext of helping him escape the clutches of law. It is alleged that the constable also forcibly transferred a residential site, worth more than Rs 60 lakh, belonging to the accused to a money lender, to whom the accused owed Rs 15 lakh.

The allegations are made against Prasad, who works as a constable (crime) in the Anekal police station. Muniraju, a native of Kolar, who was earlier running a business incurred huge losses and was arrested by the Anekal police few months ago and sent to Parappana Agrahara central prison. He was again picked up by the staff of another station in the Bengaluru Rural district in connection with another cheating case.

A police officer said that Muniraju made a shocking revelation during their questioning. “He has revealed that Prasad arrested him in connection with a cheating case and assured him that he would help him come out soon. To get the job done, he reportedly demanded some cash and Muniraju allegedly gave him some gold ornaments, worth Rs 4.5 lakh, belonging to his mother. However, it did not help him in any way,” the officer said.

Later another cheating case was registered against Muniraju in a station in Bengaluru Rural district. “Prasad approached Muniraju again and assured him that this time he would definitely help him as he knew an officer who worked in that station and he would resolve the matter. Muniraju claims that he again paid him around Rs 4 lakh. Meanwhile, Prasad came to know that Muniraju owned a 30 feet by 40 feet residential plot near HSR Layout, worth more than Rs 60 lakh, and he also knew that Muniraju had taken a loan of Rs 15 lakh from a money lender. He allegedly identified the money lender and took him to the jail, where Muniraju was lodged, and got the site transferred in the money lender’s name,” the officer said.

Upset over losing everything he had, Muniraju reportedly made an attempt to end his life in the jail by hanging, but was rescued by fellow inmates, the officer added.

Constable facing 3 inquiries

Constable Prasad is reportedly facing three departmental inquiries as he was accused of various charges in the past. He reportedly claimed that he was building a house worth Rs 2 crore near Attibele Road and had reportedly told Muniraju that he was in need of money for the same.

Not aware: SP

When DC contacted Bengaluru Rural Additional SP M. Narayan, he said that he was not aware of any such incident and no one has filed any complaint in this regard.
