Mumbai: Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza could not be present as the chief guest at the Madhya Pradesh (MP) government’s annual sports awards ceremony. Why? According to reports, the 29-year-old made exorbitant demands which could not be fulfilled.
The tennis star asked for a chartered plane to fly to the venue along with a make-up kit worth Rs 75,000. It is learnt that Sania also wanted five business class tickets for her assistants.
However, all these demands were made by her assistant – who acted as the mouthpiece.
Yashodhara Raje (Sports Minister, MP) said that despite Sania’s star status, the demands were unacceptable.
The report further added that shuttler Saina Nehwal and renowned badminton coach Pullela Gopichand had agreed to be a part of the function in the past with economy class air tickets and accommodation.
Even this time, Gopichand came to their rescue.
