Metrowater forms panel to study road cave-in

The committee has been formed in the wake of many cave-ins in the city roads
Chennai: With several roads in the city caving in following heavy rains, Chennai metro water on Tuesday formed a five-member committee to study the causes for cave-in and recommend remedial measures.
The committee comprises of K.K.Suresh Babu, S.E. P&D, CMWSSB, retired chief engineers Muralidhara Rao and Allaudeen, Dr Prof. Ilamparathi, Anna University and Ravichandran, JCE, TWAD Board.
The committee has been formed in the wake of many cave-ins in the city roads including one Madhya Kailash junction and TTK road causing major traffic snarl.
“During the recent rain many cave-ins have been noticed in Chennai city and work force immediately commenced to restore these sites. It is felt necessary that causes for these cave-ins are to be studied and necessary measures to be taken to protect water and sewer infrastructures in future. Hence a committee has been constituted with the following members to study the causes for these
cave-ins and measure to be taken to protect water and sewer infrastructure in future,” said an official release of metro water. The committee should study the causes for these problems and give a report within one month time to the managing director, it added.
