Hyderabad: Massive jam after accident
Hyderabad: Due to an accident near Wesley College on Tuesday morning, traffic came to a standstill for nearly two hours. Vehicles were stranded till minister road junction towards Begumpet and till YMCA junction towards Secunderabad.
Police said the traffic could not be diverted on these routes as this was the main route and there are no alternatives and during peak hours, two flyovers are allocated to traffic on one side depending on the flow.
Since the accident occurred at a peak time, traffic came to a standstill for nearly two hours stretching from YMCA junction to minister’s road. Hundreds of employees on their way to office were stranded. The stretch being the main route connecting Secunderabad and the IT corridor, traffic flow is heavy during morning hours from 8.30 am to 11 am and towards Begumpet and Gachibowli, while flow is relatively less in the opposite direction. The ongoing metro works is also adding to the commuters’ woes.
“It is become a regular process in this route. No matter how early we start from home, we miss reaching office on time. Instead of temporary diversions, only a permanent solution will solve the problem,” said Mr Celestine, a graphics designer working in Ameerpet.
Cops also say that despite efforts from the department and personnel being deployed, the problem is not solved. “During peak hours, we are allowing only one side traffic on both Patny and Paradise flyovers. Morning hours, we allow traffic on the flyover only towards Begumpet and in the evening peak hours, we allow only towards Secunderabad,” said DCP Hyderabad Traffic Mr L.S. Chowhan.
