Bengaluru student’s letter to PM gives wings to flyover work

Even a letter by an eight-year-old can do wonders for the city

BENGALURU: Even a letter by an eight-year-old can do wonders for the city. This was proved when Prime Minister Narendra Modi intervened to speed up work on a flyover across the railway track at Muthyalanagar following a letter written by city student Abhinav Suresh. The project was hanging fire for several years, putting the public to great hardship on the stretch after BEL Circle on Outer Ring Road (ORR).

Mr Modi directed Defence authorities to end the tussle between Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) and Air Force authorities over land acquisition. The matter has been resolved and the project is expected to be completed by June next year. With the completion of the flyover, traffic will move seamlessly till Goraguntepalya on Tumkur Road, said BDA sources. “I am happy that the work has begun. It will help me reach school in time so that I can concentrate on studies,” said Abhinav.

As per the Memorandum of Understanding between the two agencies, the Air Force authorities have agreed to part with 9.05 acres of land at its premises for the completion of the flyover. With the completion of the flyover the congestion at the railway track near Muthyalanagar will be resolved and traffic will move seamlessly until Goraguntepalya on Tumkur Road, said BDA sources.
In principle, the authorities of Air Force have agreed to part with their land and a MoU has to be signed.

Meanwhile property belonging to a Defence wing Alisda will also be acquired. Speaking to DC, Railway authorities said that the project is being executed on cost sharing basis. The project has been delayed and public have been inconvenienced to a great extent as the land acquisition hit the hurdle, said sources.
