AP secretariat to function from June 1 in new capital region

Chandrababu Naidu moved to Vijayawada and functioning from there since last about four months

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government has decided that the state secretariat would function from its new capital region from June 1 next year and asked all its employees based here to shift to Vijayawada region accordingly.

"All the departments of secretariat, heads of departments are hereby informed that secretariat and HoDs will function from the new capital region from 1st June, 2016," a circular issued by Chief Secretary IYR Krishna Rao said.

"All the departments of secretariat and HoDs are requested to plan and arrange for shifting to the new capital region before 1st June, 2016.

"They are also requested to issue instructions to all the employees and officers working in their respective department under their administrative control that the offices will function from the new capital region from 1st June, 2016 onwards," it said.

The two states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, post bifurcation, came into existence from June 2, 2014. The circular came in the wake Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu moving to Vijayawada and functioning from there since last about four months.

Naidu is said to be keen that the administrative apparatus function from the state's permanent capital region at the earliest so as to be close to the people. Hyderabad is the common capital of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for a period of 10 years as per the Andhra Pradesh Re-organisation Act.

Andhra Pradesh has been sharing office infrastructure, including Secretariat, offices of HoDs, Legislative Assembly, with Telangana as per the Act. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for Andhra Pradesh's capital city, Amaravati, on the banks of river Krishna near Vijayawada on October 22.

The Centre is supposed to fund the construction of essential government buildings for AP as per the Act. The TDP government is keen on developing Amaravati as a world-class city and the Singapore government agencies have prepared the master plans for the three-layered capital city development.
