250 acres for Belagavi IAF Radar Centre

A proposal has sent to the government on handing over the land to the Indian Air Force

Belagavi: An Air Force Radar Centre will be established shortly in 250 acres of land to be acquired at Sulebhavi, near Belagavi airport.

A proposal has sent to the government on handing over the land to the Indian Air Force, according to Deputy Commissioner N Jairam. Work on expanding Belagavi airport's runway at Sambra is getting hampered due to movement of villagers from adjacent villages to their fields and their crossing the runway. To speed up the runway expansion, the government has decided to expedite works of laying service roads for villagers which are expected to be completed shortly. According to Mr Jairam, a 20-feet road outside the airport fence will shortly be established at an estimated '72 lakh.

According to officials of Airport Authority of India, the work of runway expansion will be completed by December. The AAI is awaiting completion of alternative roads outside the airport fence to avoid movement of villagers on the runway. Without any other roads for them to reach their fields on the other side of the runway, many villagers from surrounding villages have no choice but to move on the runway presently.

Mr Jairam has assured AAI of initiating measures to ensure completion of alternative roads at the earliest.
