Drunk actor throws tantrum

When the cops asked the inebriated actor, who was driving the car, to blow into the alcometer, he refused and created a ruckus

Bengaluru: Little did this television serial lead actor know that his hangover would start much earlier than expected on Monday night when he was flagged down by the traffic police at a checkpoint.

Rakshit (24) who plays the character ‘Mahesh’ in a TV serial Puttagowri Madhuve had to spend the entire night at the Kalasipalya police station for over 5 hours for refusing to blow into an alcoholmeter. He finally relented and the cops not only booked him for drunken driving, but also sent him with a stern warning about how to cooperate and behave with the police.

Rakshit along with a friend in his car was on his way to his house in Vijayanagar on Monday night. Traffic police sub-inspector Nataraj and his subordinate Mahalingegowda, a police constable attached to the City Market Traffic police station were on their routine duty of checking for drunken driving on Lal Bagh Fort (LBF) Road at Basappa Circle when they flagged down Rakshit’s car.

When the cops asked the inebriated actor, who was driving the car, to blow into the alcometer, he refused and created a ruckus. He reportedly told the cops that it was not hygienic and gave several excuses to avoid blowing into the device, said the police. The traffic cops were left with no other choice but to alert their law and order counterparts to handle the situation.

Kalasipalya police rushed to the spot and seized the actor’s car and took him to the police station and it was sternly explained to him that if he refused to blow into the alcometer device once again, he could be booked for obstructing a public servant from discharging his duties. It was then the actor realised the gravity of the incident and decided to cooperate with the police.

The actor’s blood alcohol reading was then taken which read 220 mg per dl and the actor was asked to pay the penalty of Rs 3,000 in person directly appearing before the court, a senior police officer said adding that a letter recommending the suspension of the actor’s driving license was also sent to the Regional Transport Office.
