Moral police warn lovers in Kozhikode

Posters caution couples that their acts are caught on CCTV

KOZHIKODE: ‘Moral policing’ posters have been appearing on different pathways in the city warning lovers that they are under CCTV surveillance hence their ‘act’ would not be welcomed.

The narrow lane connecting Kannur road to Mavoor road junction near YMCA, bylanes in Chalappuram, Azchavattom, Chevayur etc have these posters in the name of ‘Paura samiti’ and resident association. But resident associations in the concerned areas say that they never put up any of these posters.

“The posters have not come to our notice. We have not put up any such poster,” Chalappuram Raksha Samithi Secretary V. Sajeev told Deccan Chronicle.

The samithi has 11 units under it in and around Chalappuram. But Hamza A., a retired bank employee in Chevayur said that though he did not know about the origin of such posters, the message in them was relevant.

Posters warning lovers

“Youth, mainly adolescents are indulging in ‘love making’ in the seclusion of these narrow pathways. Many groups of youth are there comprising more than one couple. One or two stand guard on both sides to alert the couple when someone passes,” fumed the octogenarian.

Prasad, G, who uses one of these bylanes everyday to sell his tea, said that he had met many such teenagers who took advantage of the seclusion offered by these pathways.

Meanwhile, officials in the city police commissioner’s office said that they had neither come across any such incidents nor got any complaints.
