Dal trouble: HD Deve Gowda to call MLAs’ meet
BENGALURU: In an effort to cement differences within the party, particularly in the light of an abortive attempt to forge an alliance with Congress for next month’s polls to the Legislative Council, JD (S) patriarch H D Deve Gowda has decided to convene a meeting of the legislature party in a day or two.
Speaking to the media after meeting state unit president and his son H D Kumaraswamy here on Monday, Mr Gowda said legislators would be allowed to express their views in the party forum. “We believe in internal democracy in the party. I will listen to their suggestions during the meeting. I do not stop any one from talking and let them express their opinion frankly. All confusion will be resolved after the meeting, Mr Gowda said. About confusion over the father and son adopting divergent stands, Mr Gowda said: “I know that you are more interested in the issue than myself. I am telling you that the issue will be sorted out at the meeting. I want legislators to speak in the party forum,” he added.
National meet on December 3
The national executive of JD(S) would be held in Bengaluru on December 3, with Over 50 representatives from New Delhi, Kerala and other states scheduled to participate in the one day meeting. “Various issues pertaining to the party will be discussed at the national executive,” Mr Gowda added.
Bhavani Revanna in probables’ list
Yet another member of Mr Gowda’s family—his daughter-in-law Bhavani Revanna—is likely to contest the elections to Legislative Council. Mrs Revanna’s name figures along with that of MLC from Hassan -- Mr Patel Shivaram.
In a major development, Mr Huli Naikar from Tumakuru and Mr Ramakrishna Gowda from Mandya are unlikely to get tickets for another term. In Kolar, Mr C R Manohar, who had unsuccessfully contested Lok Sabha polls from Chikkaballapur would be given the ticket. In Mysuru, Mr Sandesh Nagaraj would be given the ticket for his second term, while Mr Ajith would be fielded from Chikkamagalur constituency. Interestingly, the party seems unlikely to field a candidate in Ballari, where former MP Mr K C Kondaiah is likely to contest on a Congress ticket.
