Congress split over ‘alliance’ with Telangana Rashtra Samithi

Differences persist over MLC seat ‘adjustments’

Hyderabad: Differences among Congress leaders over “adjustments” with the ruling TRS party in the ensuing MLC polls continue even after AICC general secretary Mr Digvijay Singh and secretary Mr R.C. Kuntia held a meeting on Monday in Delhi.

TPCC president Mr N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and Leader of Opposition in Assembly Mr K. Janareddy informed Mr Digvijay Singh that the initial talks between the TRS and Congress regarding the MLC polls were only “adjustments” and not an alliance.

Party working president Mr Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said after the meeting that “there will be no adjustments with TRS”, and only with other opposition parties based on their strength in respective districts.

The Congress high command had summoned the Telangana party leaders to take stock of the political situation with regard to the Warangal Lok Sabha by-poll results, MLC polls and the ensuing GHMC polls.

Meanwhile TRS and Congress leaders have started dialogues to contest the MLC polls based on their actual strengths and make it unanimous in Ranga Reddy, Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda districts.

Congress MLA and former Minister from Mahabubnagar Ms D.K. Aruna said on Monday that it would be better if the Congress and TRS contested one seat each and made the poll unanimous. “…instead of making adjustments with other parties, it would be better to have it with TRS in Mahabubnagar,” she said.

In the meeting at the AICC office, national leaders were briefed about the ongoing dialogue with TRS leaders over sharing of MLC seats a few districts.

When Mr Digvijay Singh asked how could the state leaders think of adjustments with the ruling party, Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy and Mr Janareddy informed him that it was not an alliance, but only adjustments based on the respective party’s strength in the electorate.

Mr Singh told the leaders that they should convene a TPCC Coordination Committee meeting and take an overall view instead of airing different views to which Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy agreed.
