Movie Review ‘First Rank Raju’: First rank for this Raju!

The movie shows typical parents aspiring to see their only son excel in studies, and helping him stay a first ranker through his academics, to become an engineer and join a reputed company.

Achyuth Kumar and Sudha Belawadi could not have been more perfect in their respective roles — playing the parents who sacrifice everything for their son to excel ‘only’ in studies. Raju played by Gurunandan, probably an unforgettable character in his career, ‘rote’ learnt everything, ended a nerd. As desired by his parents, Raju is just a step away from achieving his dream — the perfect multi-national company career. With just six months to go, Raju attends the campus interview with confidence, but to his surprise, his boss portrayed by Anant Nag rejects him outright, saying he is looking for a sensible person and not another machine to work in his office.

Devastated by the incident, Raju somehow convinces the boss to give him another chance, assuring him that he would return with more than just bookish knowledge. The film sees the protagonist’s parents helping him socialise, and help him experience everything he has so far missed out on in his life. And the list is endless.
