Vellapally communalises aid to Noushad
The two workers who have died in the manhole mishap were ignored by the government
KOCHI: SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellapally Natesan has made a communally-loaded observation against a man who had laid down his life in an attempt to save two lives by stating that the government follows a policy of favouritism in announcing relief to dependents of people who lost their lives in mishaps.
The SNDP leader was referring to Rs 10 lakh assistance announced by the government for the family of Noushad Kuruvissery, an autorikshaw driver who died while trying to rescue two migrant workers trapped in a manhole in Kozhikode, only because he was a Muslim.
Speaking at the reception given to his Samatwa Munneeta Yatra in Aluva on Sunday Vellapally said “if you die in Kerala you should die as a Muslim” referring to the promise made by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to the family of Noushad.
“I was only trying to expose the double standards in providing relief to victims of mishaps”, he said later justifying his comment.
The two workers who have died in the manhole mishap were ignored by the government, he pointed out as evidence of discrimination. The government has also failed to extend any help to four handball players who died in a road accident few days ago, he added.
Denying charges that he was communalising the issue Vellapally claimed he is having a data base to prove that the government shows favouritism on religious basis in awarding relief.
